How To Deal With A Bad Day At A Part-Time Job

By Kylie Exline on July 25, 2016

We all have those days where the last possible thing we want to deal with is being at work, even if it is only a part-time job.

We could be in a bad mood because we received little to no sleep, life is currently beating us up, or we just are plain crabby. Regardless, it is allowed and if you disagree, then you need a good bad day in your life. In the best way possible of course.

If you wonder how to deal with a bad day on the job, continue reading below and prepare to take notes. Or at least pay slight attention.

Take a breather.

If the day is not going as planned, sometimes all you need is a quick breather. Forgetting to breathe is never a good idea, especially because it can physically kill you. We would never want that. Plus, breathing helps you keep down your anxiety, and to focus on the moment.

Depending on the job, you are most likely dealing with people. In this case, you must be on your best behavior. And if not, prepare for the expected firing to take place. Last resort obviously.

If you are in a major bad mood, then go on break and take a shot at the bar next door. Or go for a five-minute walk and FaceTime a friend. Or maybe all you need is a good ole burger. You can never go wrong with that.

When life is throwing you lemons, make lemonade and add a lot of sugar. Remembering to take it easy is imperative and will maybe take your bad day and turn it into a semi-good one. We can all hope.

Focus on the positive.

When given a bad day, we can try our hardest to focus on the positive. And no, I am not lying when I say this, because it is still possible. We just have to try a little harder. It will be worth it.

If we remember that our shift will eventually end, then we can make it through. One shift at a time, people. Although a bad day seems like it will never be over, it definitely will. Plus, we should always keep in mind that it is only a part-time job, so it could always be worse with 40-hour work weeks. Thank goodness.

These positives may come in small pieces, but come nonetheless. They can show up in the price of a cookie, a tip, or just minor complaints throughout the day. Positivity is positivity, guys.

When we are having a bad day, it seems that we do not have to try that hard to find the good things that life has to offer because they will be more obvious. Unless we are blatantly ignoring the good things because we are just that much in a bad mood. Not a good look.

Look forward to the end.

I know many say that you should pay attention to the present and what is at hand, but sometimes ya just gotta look toward the end of a situation. View it as looking forward to your life goals and achievements. It is okay to tell tiny lies to yourself at times. Whatever gets you through the day.

Focusing on the end of a shift can make your day go way faster. For instance, you are waiting to go home and crash in bed, meet friends at a local bar, or hit up a new movie that has the typical actors. There is always something to look forward to.

When it seems like your day cannot get any worse and your mood could not possibly be more sour, just think about 3.7 hours from now, or whenever you can head home. That should brighten the mood a little.

If your day is truly that awful, then going through the motions is necessary and running through that finish line will be that much more amazing. You can do it. I believe in you.

All of us have those off days where we wake up on the wrong side of the bed, have something other than milk in our Cheerios, and do not want to talk or deal with anyone, even if we have already had our normal three cups of coffee before noon. Hey, do not judge.

There are only so many things we can do when in a terrible, negative mood. We can take a quick breather and break, try to focus on the positive, and just keep looking forward to the end. Of our shift that is, not our life. I am not that cynical.

Regardless, a part-time job is not the absolute worst thing that can be going on in our lives at the moment. So appreciate it, and be happy that not every day is a bad day.
